In the last decade, an important shift has taken place within Latin American Studies, advocating a hemispheric, Atlantic, or global approach to writing history. As rewarding and innovative as these new approaches are, they provide specific challenges regarding both methodology as well as implementation. This project, hence, should function as both a sounding board and a forum for new ideas and debates on how to write Latin American history within a global framework, how to trace links and diffusions of ideas, particularly those that do not travel from North to South.

This projets has the Universität Bern as partner, and funding from FGV's presidency institutional project, Global Transformations in Rising States.

It has also counted with the support of the Swiss National Science Foundation and the Mercator Stiftung.
