The European Union and Latin America

In 2007 was signed the strategic partnership between Brazil and the European Union. The goal of the partnership is to bring both regions closer and build convergence. Bearing that in mind, the FGV’s Center for International Relations invites Professor Miriam Saraiva to debate and bring a new perspective in the relationship between these two actors. Miriam Saraiva is a Ph.D. from the Complutense University of Madrid and is currently professor at the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ). Professor Saraiva draws a distinction between two forms of dialogue: the bilateral and the multilateral. The first one aims at issues related exclusively to two States, such as academic exchange, while the second deals with broader topics of the international politics agenda, as security issues. Therefore, is also important to recognize the repercussions of these dialogues and how they impact this partnership.
