Eduardo Viola

Eduardo Viola holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of São Paulo (1982) and hold a postdoctoral degree in Global Environmental Change at the University of Colorado at Boulder (1990-1991). Eduardo is a Senior Researcher at the Institute of Advanced Studies at the University of São Paulo, Full Professor at the Postgraduate Program in International Relations at the University of Brasília, Collaborating Professor at the School of International Relations at Fundação Getúlio Vargas, SP and Researcher Level 1B at CNPq . He is also coordinator of the CNPq Research Group “The International System in the Anthropocene”. He has taught at several universities: Stanford, Texas, Amsterdam, Colorado, Notre Dame, Lisbon, Federal de Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul, Unicamp, San Martín, Rosario and Buenos Aires. Prof. Viola is a member of several national and international scientific committees. He is the author of 7 books, over 50 book chapters and over 80 articles published in specialized scientific journals in several countries. He has researched and published on Global Governance, Environmental and Climate Policy and Politics, International Political Economy of Climate Change and Brazilian Foreign Policy. He has 277 citations in Web of Science and more than 5,800 citations in Google Scholar (in both databases among the most cited authors in the great area of ​​human sciences in Brazil). He has supervised over 30 doctoral theses, over 60 master's theses and 6 postdoctoral internships. He has participated in seminars and lectured in over 50 countries. He has actively participated in public debates on Environmental and Climate Policy for the past 3 decades.

  • Brazil as Emerging Market Democracy: between the Democratic Agenda and the Globalization Agenda” IEA-USP. FAPESP thematic project with the participation of 10 researchers, coordinated by professors Lourdes Sola and Eduardo Viola
