Targeted sanctions are increasingly used by the UN Security Council to address major challenges to international peace and security. Since the end of the Cold War, they have been used for a variety of objectives, such as counter-terrorism, nuclear non-proliferation, supporting democracy, and address armed conflicts worldwide. This ongoing project, in cooperation with the Graduate Institute, Geneva, analyses their impacts and effectiveness worldwide, and regularly supports the work of diplomats and UN officials working in the Security Council.
