The Rise of Cities and Regions in International Relations
Auditório da Escola de Direito da FGV (Rua Rocha, 233) - 27/03/2012 - 18:00 - 20:00

With the diversification of actors and the acknoledgement of the role of individuals in international relations, Nation States tend to lose their former role as the only legitimate representatives of societies in international affairs. Civil society organizations become more and more relevant and in the public sphere subnational entities become progressively more important.

The Center for International Relations at FGV hosted a lecture by Reta Jo Lewis, Special Representative of Intergovernmental Affairs at the US State Department, expert on the international agency of subnational entities, Rodrigo Tavares, International Advisor to the Government of the State of São Paulo, and Alfredo Cotait, Secretary of International Relations of the Council of the City São Paulo. The event was mediated by Dr. Oliver Stuenkel, coordinator of the MBA in International Relations at FGV in São Paulo.
