Policy Workshop “Emerging Powers and the Global Nuclear Order”
Brasilia, Brazil. - 19/03/2013 - 14:00 - 18:00

Postdoctoral Research Fellow Carlo Patti took part in the policy workshop "Emerging Powers and the Global Nuclear Order", co-sponsored by Universidade de Brasília and the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.

The workshop brought together experts from Brazil, Argentina, Chile, India, Turkey, and the United States for a discussion of issues pertaining to emerging powers and the global nuclear order. The premise of the workshop is that many states whose voices have often been overshadowed in the past on nuclear issues are becoming increasingly important constituents in nuclear affairs. Efforts to strengthen or adapt global governance in the nuclear area should address these countries’ concerns and engage them in implementing concerted decisions.

The workshop discussed perspectives from these countries on global and regional nuclear developments, explored how and where the interests and priorities of these emerging powers align and diverge, and identified opportunities for strengthened interaction on disarmament and nonproliferation objectives.
