Lecture: Obama's Challenges in Latin America

Julia E. Sweig is the Nelson and David Rockefeller Senior Fellow and is director of Latin American Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations. She is one of the leading and most influential analysts of U.S. relations with Latin America. She is the author of Friendly Fire: Losing Friends and Making Enemies in the Anti-American Century (Public Affairs, 2006).

Her book Inside the Cuban Revolution: Fidel Castro and the Urban Underground (Harvard University Press, 2002) received the American Historical Association's award for best book of the year. Her next book, Cuba: What Everyone Needs to Know, was published by Oxford University Press in 2009.

The lecture will be conducted in English, but the public can ask questions in Portuguese.

This lecture inaugurates the activities of the Center for the Study of International Relations at the Getulio Vargas Foundation, headquartered at CPDOC.
