Implementing the Responsibility to Protect: New directions for international peace and security?

Dr. Oliver Stuenkel took part in the event “Implementing the Responsibility to Protect: New directions for international peace and security?”.
 
Organized by Instituto Igarapé and the Centro Brasileiro de Relações Internacionais (CEBRI) at the Mercure Hotel in Brasilia, the event gathered academic experts (both from Brazil and abroad), diplomats and militars, and it had the presence of Antônio Patriota, Minister of External Relations. Among the audience there were also Brazilian diplomats working in Geneva, New York and Washington DC, members of the Brazilian Army, experts in International Relations and in International Security and representatives from International Organizations and from the diplomatic community in Brasilia.
 
The focus of the event was to evaluate the possibilities for the implementarion of the Responsibility to Protect and of the Brazilian proposal of Responsibility While Protecting, considering the recent developments in the issue and the new report release by the UN Secretary General in September 2012.
